THE tofree STORY

FOUNDER

Gründerin1closeup

I’m Nora — a bespoke tailor and state‑certified fashion designer. I live with my family near Altlandsberg, east of Berlin.
With tofree, I want to present a label that is down‑to‑earth and authentic.

My great‑grandmother was already a seamstress and passed her passion and love for textiles on to me. I still remember how my grandmother spoke Plattdeutsch with me.

The name “tofree” (pronounced taufree with a long “e”) comes from Plattdeutsch, connecting me to my roots and meaning “content” or “satisfied.”

That’s exactly what I want to give my customers — a feeling of satisfaction when they give an existing item an extra round in the resource cycle with a tofree product and support fairer trade.

MY VALUES

Reliability

I want to give precious materials from discarded items new value through my designs.

Where possible, we primarily use old textiles of suitable quality and durability for their intended purpose. Even partially damaged textiles with good substance and valuable fibers are gladly reused at tofree.

Additionally, certified fabrics and deadstock materials are used.
The passion, effort, and appreciation for resources should be at the forefront of every new tofree product.

Transparency

For a long time, I have resisted the practices of the fast‑fashion industry, which prioritizes profit over responsibility toward people and nature.
That’s why I rely on the highest certification standards for the basics I offer. All important details are listed in the product descriptions.

The design, craftsmanship, repairs, and refinement of the basics are done by my own hands and well selected production facilities in Europe.

All old textiles are thoroughly cleaned before use.
Resources come from private donations and nearby textile recyclers — for example, from the Textilhafen of the Berlin City Mission.

Conviction

I want to show others that love and responsibility in how we treat our resources can create a better world.

I hope my motivation and values inspire others and help initiate change.

As a bespoke tailor, I wish for greater appreciation for everyone who practices or learns a traditional craft.
